It's still hitting me that I turned 30 yesterday! I certainly don't feel it or even look it, (Thank God!) but it is the truth. The moment the clock struck midnight on New Years' Day of 2026, I felt the dread of it then. Knowing that yesterday was coming and there was so much I thought I would've done by then or would've happened by the time I turned 30, I knew I was going to have to surrender to God quite a few things on “My List”. Notice I said, “My List,” not God's plan. I think we as humans, particularly Americans, plan for life to go certain ways and expect them to go on that path. But when you're trying to live a life surrendered to Jesus, He has His own path for you to follow; His own plans in mind that can easily sway a person if their plans don't line up with His and they aren't willing to change their perspective. There's a lot of things I thought would've happened by now when I reached this age, but looking back I am so grateful that some of those things didn't occur the way I thought they should. God had, and still has, a bigger plan and the part we get to play is trusting Him, continuing the work He's called us to, and watch as He moves in our lives.
But now since I am 30, (as of 7:30 pm yesterday! Lol!) I want to point out how several leaders in the Bible began to step into their purposes or callings at the age of 30. Joseph was 17 when he was given dreams by God that he would lead his family. Little did he know, he wouldn't begin to see the manifestation of those dreams until he became 30 and Pharoah placed him as second in command of all of Egypt.
David also a teen, when the prophet Samuel anointed him to be the next king of Israel. He went through a lot-- running from Saul, hiding in caves, fearing for his life, before he began his reign over Judah at 30 and eventually Israel.
Jesus, the Son of God, carrying the weight of everyone that was, is, and will be, on His shoulders. Knowing He was brought to Earth to save humanity from their sins and carrying every Messianic prophecy that was spoken about Him, didn't begin His ministry until 30!
I feel like I'm in good company. There are things, I know God has promised me, and spoken over my life that I have not yet seen come to pass yet, but there's something about 30…I'm just wondering…I'm just hopeful…I'm now expectant…
